After the excitement of it all...

I just finished my student teaching about a week and a half ago. It was a great experience but I am excited to be moving onto the next chapter of my life! My excitement was pretty high until a few days ago. I was personally offered a job as a literacy coach with some kindergarden and second grade students. Not only would I meet all the requirements but it was at the school that I've been involved in the after school program for 3+ years! The requirement was a language arts specialist with a teaching certificate. Well, great! I am a language arts major... So what's the problem? Well.. I don't have a teaching certificate.
This reality quickly set in and I began to ponder, "Did I do things all wrong? Should I have tried harder to complete my classes before student teaching?" Here I am almost handed a position and I can't take it because I'm short by two classes. Both of which will be finished in April.
Well, shortly after I was indulging in self-pity I realized that I had the privilege of possibly offering someone else the position. As hard of a pill this was to shallow, I knew it was the right thing to do. Tomorrow this individual has their interview and I can honestly say that I do hope them the best of luck. My time is simply not here. It's coming, but it's not here. My heart must learn to be content and trust that God still has my best in mind. In the meanwhile, I have the privilege of cheering on a great candidate. I have the privilege of watching someone else's dream come one step closer to reality. Mine's not here, but it's close. For now, I will rejoice through someone else's success. Soon it will be my turn, but until then, I will rejoice through those who so heartedly deserve it.

Inner City Beauty

Well I thought maybe I should start a teaching blog. I am a student teacher in Michigan and love every minute of it! I have experience with students in grades K-5 and am currently in a 3rd/4th grade class. My passion is to reach the unreachable. I love inner city children. Well, I love all children, but the inner city holds a special place in my heart. I did teacher assisting in a pretty wealthy area and it just wasn't the same. Sure, the kids were well behaved, but I found myself looking for something more- something deeper. I know I am being called to what many teacher find as there "last resort". I just can't seem to help it. The disruptive student, the loner student, the student who comes from a broken family and therefore deemed "unreachable", these are my students. These are the children I seek out and strive to push. Every student has the ability to achieve, even if it's in their own steps. This is my inspiration as a teacher, to teach, but to never, ever, stop learning.
